Tioga Road
It is the highest vehicle passage in California, the starting point of many hiking trails.

I therefore recommend that you check the road conditions before planning your visit (if you cannot take Tioga Road, you will need to detour around the park from the north or the south, which can easily add 1 to 2 extra days to a trip in the American West).

Tioga Road, officially known as California State Route 120, is a spectacular scenic road that crosses the eastern part of Yosemite National Park. It runs between Lee Vining and Crane Flat, and through Tioga Pass (3,031 meters), the highest mountain pass road in California. Tioga Road offers varied and stunning landscapes, ranging from granite cliffs and alpine lakes to vast meadows and evergreen forests.

However, due to its high altitude, the Tioga Road is closed during the winter season because of snowfall. Although the exact opening and closing dates vary from year to year, the road is generally closed from early November until May and sometimes until June.
