Mono Lake is a soda lake, hypersaline, located about 13 km east of Yosemite National Park, near the town of Lee Vining. This lake is famous for its limestone formations called Tufas that are found outside the lake. These formations are the result of the meeting of warm, pressurized waters rich in calcium ions and the cooler lake waters loaded with carbon dioxide.

There are 3 accesses that allow you to get close to the lake. The most interesting one is located on the south shore. From Lee Vining, take US 395 south for 8 km, then turn left on Highway 120. After 7 km, take the 1.5 km trail on the left that leads to the edge of the lake. The America the Beautiful Pass (also called the Interagency Annual Pass) is ACCEPTED. Otherwise, $3/person: payment by envelope if no one is there.
