Information

Checkpoint Charlie was one of the border posts between West Berlin and East Berlin, the only one that allowed foreigners, prisoner exchanges, vehicles from West Germany, and diplomats to pass through during the partition of Berlin by the wall from 1961 to 1989. Historically, it witnessed a significant episode of the Cold War: 16 hours during which American tanks faced Soviet tanks, guns aimed.

Opinion

The place is mythical, but we didn’t feel much once we got there. An influx of tourists, staged actors in soldier costumes to satisfy Instagram, a McDonald's right next door, etc. The area is very overrated, but at least stop by to see it 😉

Opinion

It is a must-see, but this historic place has been taken over by McDonald's, Starbucks, and other shops. The guards surrounding the checkpoints are actors who charge a high price for a photo, and it is a very crowded place for tourists. I therefore advise you to pass through without stopping for too long.
