The museum costs between $21 and $33 but is free on Monday evenings from 5:30 PM to 7 PM. We recommend booking your time slot in advance. We took it at the last minute and had to wait an hour to enter. Plan for a full 3-hour visit. To enhance your experience, we suggest downloading the app that the museum offers, which is free: 9/11 Museum Audio Guide 😉

The 9/11 memorial museum deeply impacted me. Descending to the basement, the anxiety and intensity of the experience are striking, to the point that I couldn't finish the visit. It's a museum that is truly worth it.

Ground Zero has been replaced by the 9/11 Memorial that I appreciate very much: Reflecting Absence. It is a forest of trees around two square fountains, located at the former site of the twin towers. The names of all the victims of September 11, 2001, as well as those of the 1993 attack, are inscribed along the edges of the fountains. The memorial area also includes the 9/11 Museum, an engaging museum recounting the events of that fateful day and explaining the origins of the attacks, their preparation, and their consequences.

The World Trade Center is an unfortunately symbolic site of New York. The September 11 Memorial honors the victims of the 2001 attacks. It consists of two immense pools where the foundations of the twin towers once stood. These pools are surrounded by the engraved names of the 2,977 victims.

It is this neighborhood that has evolved the most between 2006, the date of my first visit, and 2019. In 2006, we still talked about Ground Zero; the area was under construction, and people used the fences to display photos and other testimonies of the emotions evoked by the attacks. In 2007, a small exhibition had been set up to gather the objects found in the rubble and those left by passersby. The emotion was palpable.

The museum is very well done, partly underground, on the very foundations of the towers. The tribute to the victims, with photos, testimonies, and anecdotes, is very moving.
