This site can be an interesting stop for a quick swim and to explore the “small” but cute gorges, for passing travelers who want to admire these little animals and have amenities for a few dollars. However, make sure to wear good shoes. We went in flip-flops and it was sometimes borderline dangerous.

The Granite Gorges are located near Mareeba. The entrance fee is €24 for two, but the entry includes camping and access to the site's amenities (toilets, showers, barbecues, fridges, etc.).

It's a nice place to spot the rock wallabies. They are not at all shy and are very greedy. It is possible to get some pellets at the entrance for a few dollars. We were very lucky because a lady who had just finished the tour kindly gave us her remaining packet! We spent a wonderful afternoon there admiring the wallabies.
